Attended a campaign function here last night, tried two of the wines: the Claret and the Rose. The Rose was definitely the better wine, with complex seemingly tropical fruity overtones that fit together seemlessly in to a smooth and refreshing finish. The Claret was very fragrant, but it's flavor was bland and unremarkable - you could tell you were drinking a wine, but that was about it.

Ended up getting 2 bottles of wine to share amongst us (which is a lot better cost wise) but for me I usually always get a bottle of wine at the end of a tasting and I loved both wines we bought but the yucky taste of the service was left in our mouths and we hurried off to the next stop.

My absolute favorite winery in the world, and the staff is warm and friendly. The wine is definitely worth every penny, and really neat environment out in Woodinville Washington. The location is a little past some of the other wineries (if you are coming from the south on Woodinville Redmond road), so make sure to keep going until you see Matthews on the right hand side.

Very snobby attitude when you first come in. No greeting or anything. This was our 2nd stop on the wine train and man, we are 0 for 2 (mind you the rest were great) but man... what to damper a fun time. We had 8 with us and they told us that groups of 8 or more needed a reservation. We decided that some of us aren't huge wine drinkers that we would share tastings and we said just 7 of us would do the tasting, suddenly group of 6 or more needed a reservation. Anywhere on their website about making reservations would be nice. I've noticed that other people below have had similar issues with the service here. If its more than one person mentioning it then it is clearly an issue.

Matthews Winery is a must when visiting Woodinville wineries. Their great staff, beautiful facility, and delicious Bordeaux inspired wines have made Matthews a "go to" when hosting out of town guests, or just getting together with friends and family.

The updated interior is awesome, fresh but maintains that winery feel you are looking for. Great selection of wines and snacks, would go back in a heart beat. My good friend Carter Gray and I swung in and met the owner and new friend, Diane. Such a super lady.

As for the winery itself, the location is set in a beautiful and green part of the Sammamish Valley in a tasteful, if underwhelming, building. Nothing tacky, but nothing really memorable either, probably better for a business function than a date. They have a nice vista area set up with red outdoor chairs on the hill above the main site - perhaps they should consider constructing a Gazebo or other structure there?
